Queer Hiking Bristol came about when the founder Hannah wanted more opportunities to meet other LGBTQ+ people at events that were not centred around city drinking culture.
Hannah quickly created an Instagram account and a logo (thanks, Canva!) in January 2023, expecting to maybe find a handful of people to go on a walk with. 40 people showed up on the first hike, and Hannah would be the first to say she didn’t have a clue what she was doing. And so QHB was born!
We’ve gone from that chaotic first walk to a thriving community of Bristol based volunteers and walkers who enjoy the outdoors together. We still bring a few of those chaos vibes to each walk, but our leaders and volunteers have learnt a ton, so we’re a slightly more slick operation these days. We became a Community Interest Company in 2024.
Now, we run 2-4 weekend hikes a month, evening walks in the summer and 4 or 5 weekend trips to bunkhouses a year. We also love a collab, so we’ve done events combined with yoga, foraging, nature therapy, bird watching and more. And this year, we’re launching our first Summer Camp event and a group is off to Morocco with Pride Expeditions. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for our community.
Queer Hiking Bristol is grateful to receive funding from the Quartet Community Foundation and the National Lottery Awards for All.
Thank you for supporting us, and we hope that through Queer Hiking Bristol, you find some connection, community and endorphins.
