We’re really stretching the the word ‘weekender’ this time to cram in 4 delightful nights in the beautiful Lake District.
If you’ve never been on one of our trips before, it involves walking (natch), eating (great) and some optional activities. Lots of time for socialising making some new friends.
When and where
Wednesday 9th to Sunday 13th July at Almond Lodge Bunkhouse, near Helvellyn and Ullswater.
We recommend taking at least half of 9th and all day 10th and 11th off as annual leave (it's a 6 hour drive from Bristol).
Cost
Low income place: £90
Recommended price place: £150
Supporter place: £185
Prices include 4 nights accommodation in a dorm and most of your meals (see food below). We can take payments in installments.
-
We’ll be in dorm accommodation in a bunkhouse slap bang in the middle of the countryside. It’s a nice one - it’s even got a bath!
Group size is 28, including leaders and chefs.
We have exclusive use of the bunkhouse.
All bathrooms are gender neutral.
-
Almost fully catered - we’ve got the very excellent Robbie from Serving Bristol cooking us up a storm again.
You’ll get 3 dinners, 4 lunches and 4 breakfasts. Breakfasts and lunches are a help yourself affair, usually cereals, toasts, fruit etc in the morning, and all the trappings to make yourself a packed lunch. We’ll go out to the pub for dinner one night - cost is extra.
Almost everything is vegetarian. Most dietary requirements can be catered for (vegans and GFs, we’ve got you).
-
We’re working out the final details, but it will look something like the below. You can opt in/out of any activities.
Wednesday evening: arrival, dinner and introductions
Thursday day: big hike (7-9 miles, hilly)
Thursday evening: pub dinner somewhere local
Friday day: 3-5 mile hike and optional paddleboard or kayak
Friday evening: dinner and games at the bunkhouse
Saturday day: 3-5 mile hike, optional activity
Saturday evening: dinner at the bunkhouse, maybe a sunset hike
Sunday: short hike, coffee and cake before heading back to Bristol

The Lake District has a lot of hills. The terrain can be quite demanding at times. We’ll share the routes with attendees with elevations and as much info as we have. We try and mix it up and include some smaller and flatter ones, and you don’t have to do all the hikes - but in general, walks in the Lake District are on the more challenging side.
We ask for access needs so we can chat to you about what to expect and work out if it might be best to sit any hikes or activities out.
Group trips mean we move at group pace. Some people are faster, some are slower. We’ll take regular breaks and it may mean if you’re a faster walker there’s a bit more waiting around.
-
We’re looking into a minibus, but it’ll likely be rideshares.
-
If we can find someone to take your place, we can offer you a full refund if you cancel. We can do this up to 3 weeks before the event.
After this time we cannot offer any refunds. If we can’t replace you, we can’t offer a refund (but we usually can!)
How to sign up
Registration is open now and closes 10pm Sunday 2nd March 2025
After it closes, use the form to sign up to the waitlist
Places are drawn randomly after registration closes
If you’re drawn, you'll get an email confirming the trip and payment details
If you do not get drawn, you'll also get an email to let you know and you’ll automatically go on the waitlist
We recommend adding queerhikingbristol@gmail.com to your safe senders list
There's an option to add the name of someone you'd like to attend with. We can't guarantee they'll also be picked, but there'll be a portion of the draw that will be for plus ones of people picked, so they'll go into the pool for that. They will still need to fill in the form themselves.
Please email any questions to queerhikingbristol@gmail.com.
